Megan Liljenquist is an American illustrator who specializes in capturing the adventure in everyday moments. Unafraid to color between the lines of whimsy and realism, her artistic style utilizes bold colors, rich textures, and dynamic compositions to beautifully showcase the power of picture books in bringing families, cultures, and generations together through a shared story.

With an exciting freelance career well underway, she currently has four self-published books and has worked with dozens of clients to bring their stories to life. She graduated with a Fine Art degree from Arizona State University in 2010, and has spent much of her professional career in positions to help give children of all ages access and education in art. Megan is inspired by the stories of connection found in history, nature, and mythology... For her, these are the places where real world and fantasy come together.

A lifelong desert dweller, she and her family recently relocated to West Virgina, where she’ll be experiencing seasons for the first time in her life. Out of the studio, Megan prefers to be with her husband and four children- either camping, hiking, or swimming. She also prefers her drinks to be more ice than liquid.

FAQ

Can she illustrate my book?

If you are working with a traditional publisher, please reach out to her agent, Sally Kim. If you are self publishing, head to the contact page to inquire about availability and rates.

How much does she charge?

Without discussing your vision for the illustrations, it’s hard to give an exact quote for the expected cost. When a quote is provided, it will be the total cost for your project, and include all drawn elements of your picture book- front/back cover design, interior illustrations, and end papers if applicable.

What does her illustration process look like?

Her work is split into three main sections: Character development and storyboard, color roughs, and final art. Meg works closely with clients throughout the project to make sure they are always on the same page, and hand draws every element through digital software.

What kinds of work does Meg take on?

Dream projects include stories with a connection to the natural world, plenty of adventure, and at least a few opportunities for full backgrounds. Spooky stories welcome!

She's a good fit for projects in any of these categories:

Children's Literature

Custom Commissions

Black & White interiors

Coloring Pages

Book Covers

Murals (US based only)
